Marantz Model 60n Streaming Amplifier Lab Report
The performance of the ’60n’s digital stage is determined, in part, by Marantz’s own HDAM SA3 line stage and choice of ESS’s tried-and-tested ES9018K2M DAC with inbuilt ‘Slow’ linear phase digital filter (there’s no ‘Marantz Musical Digital Filtering’ here). Jitter is fabulously low at <5psec (‘Wide’ or ‘Narrow’ lock mode), the A-wtd S/N is an impressive 106dB (via pre out re. 2V) and THD is very low at a minimum of 0.0003% (20Hz-20kHz) over the top 20dB of its dynamic range [see Graph 2]. Stopband rejection is limited at just –6dB – a trade off within the chosen filter for much reduced time domain distortion – just as there’s an early treble roll-off amounting to –4.1dB/20kHz, –5.7dB/45kHz and –8.0dB/90kHz with 48kHz, 96kHz and 192kHz media, respectively. This is a good choice for higher sample rate files. PM
