AVM has had a technology tie-in with Denmark's Pascal A/S for a number of years, selecting the U-PRO 2S Class D amplifier module for its Inspiration CS 2.3 [HFN Dec '21] while retaining the beefier S-PRO2 from the earlier Ovation CS 8.2 [HFN May '17] for this latest Ovation CS 8.3 Black Edition. The S-PRO2 module [pictured below with S-A2 extension board] is rated at 2x500W/4ohm (at 89% efficiency) and comes with Pascal's UREC universal switchmode PSU with Power Factor Correction (PFC) and standby converter.

In theory, these modules are bridgeable for a claimed 1kW/4ohm output but AVM runs a single S-PRO2 in stereo guise within the CS 8.3. More importantly, while we saw the U-PRO 2S module's response influenced by speaker load impedance in the CS 2.3, the improved Class D architecture of the S-PRO2 – presumably with inductive output filtering inside the feedback loop – ensures the CS 8.3's response is less affected by swings in speaker impedance. In practice its –2.6dB/20kHz/8ohm roll-off holds to –2.8dB and –3.3dB into 4 and 2ohm loads. PM
