Quad Platina Integrated amplifier Boxout

Although Quad’s amplifier history dates to the 1950s, production of integrated models didn’t begin until 1995 when Ross Walker, son of founder Peter, launched the Quad 77 [HFN Feb ’95]. This was a compact, 2x80W-rated solid-state Class AB amplifier – eschewing Quad’s ‘current-dumping’ topology – with an aesthetic typical of the decade. Arguably more noteworthy was Quad’s next integrated, the Quad II Classic [HFN Jan ’10], pictured above. Engineered by the late Tim de Paravicini and arriving in 2009, this evolved the manufacturer’s Quad II Classic monoblocks while retaining the push-pull KT66-based output stage. Rated power was increased, however, to 2x25W versus the 15W of the original 1950s mono icon [Vintage Review, HFN Mar ’14].

The all-analogue Quad II Classic Integrated has remained in production as the brand’s only valve-based integrated, since joined by models with digital stages, including the entry-level Vena [HFN Jan ’15], Vena II [HFN Jun ’19] and recently launched ‘retro-inspired’ Quad 3 [HFN Sep ’25]. Fast-forward to 2026 and this latest Platina amplifier, exceeding its 2x200W specification [see PM's Lab Report], is unequivocally Quad’s flagship integrated model. MC
