To join the new Phantom Ultimate models, Devialet has revised its iOS/Android control app (compatible with not just the Phantom range but also its portable Mania loudspeakers and Dione soundbar). While similar in overall design to the previous version (in other words, very slick and stable), the app now accommodates the Phantom Ultimate’s new calibration tools. Choose from preset listening modes (Film, Music and Podcast, plus an audiophile Monitoring option that promises a flat frequency response) and a six-band equaliser (also with Dynamic, Clear, Soft and Flat presets) to fine-tune their listening experience. There’s also a balance control for stereo systems, a Night mode ‘to allow for more discreet listening’, and a Bass Reducer option.

Useful tricks include compatibility with the volume keys on your smartphone (altering the volume level by ±5), and support for multiple users. The Devialet app is also essential for setting up the speaker, including establishing a stereo pair, and is required to switch between optical and ‘online’ sources, the latter including UPnP, Google Cast, AirPlay, Spotify and Tidal Connect.
