Premium pick-up

Ortofon used the recent High End show in Vienna [HFN Aug ’26] to reveal a new flagship cartridge. Available now for £12,999, the MC Vertex crowns the Danish manufacturer’s Exclusive range, above the MC Verismo [HFN Mar ’22] and MC 90X [HFN Jun ’25].
The cartridge debuts a ‘Vertex Diamond’ line-contact stylus, with minor and major radii of 4μm and 100μm, respectively, that is mounted in a diamond cantilever via a laser-cut ‘microbore’. High-purity silver coils are used in the MC Vertex’s generator system, while Ortofon’s familiar wide-range damping (WRD) construction promises to control cantilever resonances throughout the audioband. Both the main chassis and ‘internal core’ of the cartridge are made from titanium, utilising the manufacturer’s SLM (Selective Laser Melting) process. A 2.5g tracking force is recommended, and output is rated at a low/medium 0.3mV.
