Third time’s a charm

Having launched its range of active DSP-controlled floorstanding Utopia loudspeakers in 2024 with the Diva [HFN Dec ’24] and following that debut with the larger Diva Mezza in 2025, Focal has now unveiled a flagship design in the shape of the Diva Alta. Again blending the brand’s custom driver technologies with electronics from sister brand Naim, the new speaker adds a dedicated ‘M profile/ W cone’ midrange drive unit, for a four-way design inspired by Focal’s range-topping Grande Utopia passive model.

The Diva Alta mounts this 130mm midrange driver in a sealed, isolated enclosure at the top of its 1.48m-tall cabinet. Also new is the 27mm Prism tweeter, which Focal says employs a ‘multi-material substrate with an advanced micro-structuring process’, designed to improve rigidity over the older beryllium units of the Diva and Diva Mezza. Complementing these drivers are a 165mm mid/bass, plus four 200mm woofers arranged in push-pull pairs in a side-firing configuration.

Onboard power, from Class AB amplifiers, is given as 600W per speaker. The two cabinets connect over 96kHz/24-bit Ultra Wide Band wireless technology, or via RJ45 cable for 192kHz playback. System routing is achieved via the Diva Alta’s ‘master’ unit, which comprises wired/wireless networking, HDMI eARC, optical digital and USB-A – aptX Adaptive Bluetooth is also included. Finish options are Grey and Ivory felt, or a choice of Black, Off-White and Dune high gloss [pictured].
