Watt'S Up!

Re-Imagined Watt/Puppy Speaker Returns For Brand'S Half Century

To mark its 50th anniversary, Wilson Audio has resurrected its iconic WATT/Puppy for a ninth iteration - and the first since the dual-enclosure loudspeaker was discontinued in 2011. Called, simply, The WATT/Puppy, it sells for £41,998 in standard WilsonGloss colourways, with custom and premium finish options, plus choice of grille colour, available.

Immediately recognisable against the 1986 original, the new WATT/Puppy showcases the American manufacturer's latest material, driver and crossover technologies. X-Material is used for the cabinets and internal bracing, with S-Material employed to decouple the speaker's 178mm AlNiCo QuadraMag midrange driver from the WATT enclosure's front baffle, and V-Material on the top of the Puppy for vibration control. Two 200mm cellulose composite coned bass drivers, leveraged from Wilson Audio's Sasha V , are mounted in this rear-ported lower section, while high frequencies are delivered by a Convergent Synergy Carbon (CSC) tweeter, first seen on the company's Alexx V . The three-way crossover makes use of proprietary AudioCapX-WA capacitors.

The WATT/Puppy's two enclosures are united by a spike and track system, using a rear spike to enable time alignment of the upper module according to the listening distance. A built-in bubble aids speaker levelling.
