AVID forges Dark Iron

Acutus turntable brings motor system back onboard

AVID Hi-Fi has announced its first new turntable since 2018. Priced £10,000, the Acutus Dark Iron replaces the previous Acutus Dark Limited Edition to become the new entry model in the manufacturer’s top-line series, and debuts a new AC motor system – with DSP-generated adjustable speed control – that’s coupled to the deck’s cast aluminium sprung-suspension chassis. The spindle for the deck’s 10kg alloy platter mounts to an inverted bearing with tungsten carbide ball and sapphire jewel in a ‘self-lubricating’ sleeve. A dual belt-drive design, the Acutus Dark Iron supports up to two tonearms, and can be purchased with precision mat and aluminium record clamp upgrades for £12,950.
